Duties

  • DispatchPolice dispatching
  • 911 call taker
  • Calls for service via admin lines
  • TCIC/NCIC entries and removals
  • Maintain warrants
  • Monitor jail
  • Maintain logs
  • Maintain maps of city
  • Assist officers with requests
  • Frisk prisoners when needed (with training)
  • Take police reports over the telephone and in person.
  • Train other dispatchers (with additional compensation)
  • Misc duties on request

Training

CoinAll newly hired Police Communications personnel must complete the department's Communication Training and Evaluation Program. Certified Communications Officers guide the trainee through a comprehensive training period. The trainee receives instruction in:

  • Department telephone systems
  • Radio System
  • Radio Codes
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Computer Operations
  • Computer Database Access
  • General Communications Center Operations

Trainees also complete a field training program, during which a Communications Training Officer observes the performance of the newly hired dispatcher, evaluates performance, and provides guidance and assistance in becoming effective at the important duties required of dispatcher. After completion of the initial training, additional training opportunities are made available on a continual basis. Dispatchers are re-certified annually through the department’s in-service training program.
