Door-to-door safety and the US Census

Post Date:03/10/2020 1:05 PM

Census Day is April 1. Census data is used to determine how much federal funding will be distributed to state and local governments. The Census is mandated by law and can be filled out online, by mail or by phone.

If a Census worker comes to your household, here's what you need to know:

  • Census workers will never ask for your social security, bank account or credit card numbers.
  • Census workers will never ask for money or donations.
  • Census workers will not approach you on behalf of a political party.
  • You can check to make sure they have a valid ID badge. This would include a photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark and expiration date.

If you are still concerned after following these steps, you can call 800-923-8282 to verify their identity with a Census Bureau representative.
