Pflugerville Police Department receives $20,488 from TxDOT grant programs
On August 28, the Pflugerville Police Department was awarded $20,488 from the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs (STEP) grant and Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) grant for promoting safe driving throughout the year. This is the second year Pflugerville Police Department has participated in the STEP grant program and the $12,000 received through that grant will be used for proactive traffic enforcement to ensure that Pflugerville streets are safe. The Pflugerville Police Department also received $8,488 from the IDM grant program which will go to DWI/DUI enforcement this year.
These grants are the result of the Pflugerville Police Department’s efforts to promote safe driving through community education and increased enforcement of DWI/DUIs, distracted driving, other moving infractions and seat belt laws. Over the past year, Pflugerville Police Officers have visited schools, resource fairs and events to share information about wearing seat belts, the dangers of distracted driving and to hand out Child ID kits. Every Tuesday, the Department’s Facebook and Twitter pages feature Traffic Tip Tuesdays, that share information, reminders and tips about safe driving.
The Pflugerville Police Department also held a Spring Break Safety press conference on Facebook Live in coordination with the kick-off of an increased dedicated enforcement to prevent and stop traffic violations during Spring Break. This safety initiative resulted in 277 stops over March 15-25, 2019 that resulted in 96 citations and 105 warnings, creating an opportunity to further educate the community.
Last year, the Pflugerville Police Department received $12,000 through the STEP Grant, which funded community education and enforcement of traffic laws in the City of Pflugerville.
